Livable Wage |
Do you make a livable wage? According to information from the Vermont Department of Employment and Training, 45% of jobs in Vermont have a median wage that pays less than $11.58/hr ($24,086/yr.), the livable wage for a single person in 2003.

My wife and I don’t anywhere close to meeting the HH income for a livable wage and we have two children, one of whom is in day care. I’m worried I’ll be laid off and if that happens, I doubt I would be able to find a job that pays me the same wage as my existing job. On top of that, we’d like to stop renting and own our own home. It’s a sad state of affairs when two well educated parents working full time can’t come close to earning a livable wage for a family, let along make enough to be able to own their own home.

I believe strongly that working people should receive a livable wage if there ethics substantiate the level of earnings of anyone else. I also don’t believe in Vermont’s ease of putting people on welfare, health insurance, etc. People should not be allowed to buy items that not of necessity, and are not providing for their children. A lot of people on welfare can work but they feel the State will pay them more for not working then they would get if they were working. May have to have 2 or 3 jobs to have the money they need or want! Stop wasting tax payer dollars……..
